About Umber Shade

Welcome to Umber Shade, I'm the founder, designer, and technician behind this journey.

I grew up in a house that smelled faintly of turpentine. My mum is an art teacher, surrounding with brushes and pigment jars, I learnt to paint long before I could write. But when it came for university, life led me down a different path, I pursued a master’s in Electronic Engineering and spent a decade designing circuits instead of canvases.

Even then, every spare evening found me devouring online design courses, and eventually earned my certification as a jewelry designer from GIA. The call of art never faded and finally led to Umber Shade.

Why Umber Shade?

Umber is an earthy pigment—raw and honest. Its muted warmth reminds me that imperfect beauty of life. That spirit guides everything I make, from one-of-a-kind handmade pieces to our small-batch accessory lines.

The Journey

I tried almost every product category before trimming the collection to what felt timeless: accessories that age with you and hold memories longer than trends last.

  • Looking for good craftsmanship. Early mock-ups were worked with leather artisans in a small Andalusian workshop in Spain.

  • Heritage canvas from Kurashiki, Japan.  I traced the finest canvas to 120-year-old cotton-weaving techniques,  to build my signature canvas line.

  • Limited handmade drops. When a material or technique sparks a story worth telling, I craft a micro-batch, so each piece keeps its soul.

  • Tech Meets Art. Being the engineer has its perks: I coded this online store myself, allowing every bit saved to go straight into better materials, and elevating craftsmanship.

Thanks for stopping by. Whether you’re browsing or searching for a lifelong companion piece, I hope Umber Shade brings a little raw, earthy beauty into your own story.

Stay inspired,
Umber Shade
